An Observation

Day after day, I'm struck by a particular moment in the morning rush. Every morning around 7:30, I board a Muni underground train headed downtown. Inevitably, there are always a number of desperate folk dashing to the nearest car, hoping to slide in without obstructing the doors, holding up the train and irritating their fellow passengers. The man (or woman) hops from the platform to the car, wincing as he passes through the narrowing one-foot-wide opening. Realizing his success, the little worker bee smiles wide, quite pleased with himself, searching around the car to catch the eye of another passenger, as if someone is going to give him a high-five for making it, just in the nick of time. He looks, he finds no one, his smiles drops and he looks down as his feet.

This is my morning entertainment...
